What to do, when you spilled water on MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

Water Damage or Liquid damage is one of the common problems in MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air. You spill water on Macbook Pro, MacBook Air, and MacBook and it turned off instantly. What to do now? Follow the instruction below to lower the risk of damaging your MacBook from water damage.

Unplug the charger if you are connected when water damage happening

Unplugging is one of the crucial things to do when you have water damage occurrence on the MacBook. Unplugging the charger will stop its battery from charging. However, unplugging the charger will not prevent your MacBook from water damage but turning off is.

Turn off your MacBook immediately.

Hold down the power button for 5 seconds until the power is off. Let say the power button stop working. Maybe the water already affected the keyboard and keys are not working, worry not! You need to do something to not further damage your MacBook.

Use a paper towel to absorb the liquid that is on the surface of your MacBook and after all the liquid on the surface is dried out. Close the lid so your MacBook will go to sleep. When the MacBook is on sleep mode your MacBook will cut the power to the logic board.

Block all the vent hole and unplug all the cable from MacBook

The vent hole is there for heat transfer from cool air to hot air. The vent hole is the big opening for water to get inside the MacBook. Try blocking all the water from entering from the vent holes on your MacBook.

Remove the battery from the water damage MacBook

Using either pentagon screw or Phillip screw open the back casing of your MacBook. Remove the Battery connector either using a plastic stick or fingernail. And rush to the nearest or expert to clean the logic board and to look for overall damage done by the water.

Will using rice or hairdryer work?

Do not use a hairdryer on the keyboard of the MacBook. Hairdryer uses a higher temperature which will damage the keyboard rather than drying the water from the computer. You can use rice to dry out the MacBook, however, from on-hand experience with customers’ devices with water damage. Rice has barely help absorb the water. The main killer in the water damaged MacBook is the power connection on the logic board.
