The reason for your Mac device is getting flashing folder with question mark sign or flashing question mark in a folder, is due to your mac is unable to locate the system files or folders to startup disk. Therefore, the mac will not boot. There might be another reason why mac is not booting up properly.

How to fix Apple Mac with a flashing folder with question mark sign or flashing question mark in a folder?

Shut down the Mac by holding down the power key until Mac shuts down.  Hold Command and R key and turn on the Mac, hold the keys until you see the Apple logo. Mac will open in recovery mode.

Once you are in Recovery mode, open Disk Utility on the check if you can see your hard drive (either with your name or Macintosh HD), then select the hard drive and Run First Aid, multiple times.

If the First aid works, that means you have fixed your corrupt system files and may use the Mac again.
